Rulac Variable Load Energy Saver For Star Delta Motor
INTRODUCTION
Repeated load variations or load / no-load conditions are termed as Variable load or Cyclic load. The applications include presses, conveyors, agitators, compressors and many more.
During partial / no-load conditions, the AC induction motor is supplied with 400/440V AC power. As this the motor to operate in no-load conditions does not require much power, there is a scope for conservation of energy - upto 30% of no-load power, by employing suitable energy saving devices

THE PRODUCTS:
RULAC, well known in the field of manufacturing & marketing a number of high quality devices for various energy saving applications, have developed, a unique micro-controller based software driven RULAC Variable Load Energy Saver. This device automatically changes the modes of operation of the Star Delta Motor as per requirements and saves valuable energy.

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION:
Normally, when a motor runs in delta mode, full voltage is applied to the motor. By making the motor to run in star mode during partial/no-load conditions, only 1/ \/3 times line voltage is applied, which means that there is scope for reduction in power input to the motor. The STAR DELTA MOTOR is equipped with a system of monitoring the power supply requirements of the motor according to load/UN-load conditions.
The only restriction is that the partial load torque should be met by star mode load torque otherwise the motor will stall. So adjustments shall have to be made for bottomline load conditions. Once necessary programming is made, the motor will automatically come to star mode and goes to delta mode when load is demanded. Hence, by switching on the motor in star mode during no-load conditions and in delta mode during load conditions, considerable energy could be saved. Intelligent software takes care for protection of motor and contactors.

APPLICATION IN COMPRESSORS:
The RULAC Variable Load Energy Saver, saves power wasted in compressors also during non-compression periods.
Normally, considerable amount of power is wasted in BYPASS Type compressors during non- compression periods. During non-compression periods, the motor runs in idle condition, i.e., in delta mode. In such conditions, the controller makes the motor to run in star mode and hence saves power. Moreover, by setting the proper pressure limits, further power can be saved. The main advantage of this energy saving device is that it saves power even with higher duty cycle operations.
The RULAC Variable Load Energy Saver, is suitable for compressor motor with star delta starters. The power saving with this device can be approximately 25-30% of the no-load power, which varies based on duty cycle of compressors.
